Kyoto's famously not really a night spot. Looking for dinner or booze? There's a small chain of non threatening izakaya called ニュー+place name. Copy-paste ニューinto Google Maps. Booze, take a wander down Kiyamachi. Try a bar called Fishbowl, and (a fair way further South) nokishita711 Gin and Cocktail Labo.
As a day trip from Kyoto you could do Arima Onsen. You do not need reservations to use the shared public onsen (gender separated) but if there is a private onsen option those do typically require reservations.
The map of Hyrule is roughly based on Kyoto. The shrines are located where shrines/places of interest are in Kyoto and their names are anagrams on these places! Probably known by many, but I just learned this! Credit to GameSpot for this fact.
