Nightcap is a premium plant added in the 10.8.1 update of Plants vs. Zombies 2 as part of the “Nightcap’s Covert Season” arena. She attacks by shooting piercing stars in a four tile area ahead of her (every 2.35-2.5 seconds) in a similar manner to Fume-shroom, these stars deal poisonous damage which lasts for 2 seconds.

If 2 really did take place before Heroes, Nightcap may have been like this before they were hit by the Hero-Tron. Since mushrooms can change genders irl, I guess it was incorporated into BFN and Heroes, but I doubt that will work well for PvZ 2.
