Juniper Networks designs and markets IT networking products, such as routers, switches and IT security products. It started out selling core routers for ISPs, and expanded into edge routers, data centers, wireless networking, networking for branch offices and other access and aggregation devices.
To access a network device for the first time: Connect a laptop or a desktop PC to the console port on the front panel of the device. Power on the device and wait for it to boot. The software boots automatically. When the boot process is complete, you'll see the login: prompt on the console. Log in as the user root.
After you install and power on the Juniper Networks device, you are ready to begin initial configuration. All devices have a version of Junos OS preinstalled. The procedures in this guide show you how to connect the device to the network but do not enable the device to forward traffic.
