1 de ene. de 2021 · Abstract. Mining narrow deposits presents a discrete set of additional challenges to those common to most mining. Some challenges arise from the deposit’s width, its geometry—dip and planar continuity—and its interaction with the surrounding rock mass.
For example, based on the simplified economic model for an underground stoping operation shown in Figure 1, a narrow vein mine with a 3-meter average vein width and 25 cm more dilution than expected, would incur unforeseen operating costs of up to $1 million per year.
What is underground mining? The underground mining methods we use include room and pillar, narrow vein stoping and large-scale mechanised mining. Room and pillar mining is a style of mining where tunnels are driven in a chess board pattern with massive square pillars between them which are gradually cut away as the work proceeds.
The mining method must be varied for different specific deposits. In summary, there are three dominant techniques worldwide for mining gently-dipping narrow vein: Longwall mining method: this method is suitable for mining bedding deposit with a dip less than 35°, 3-4 m thickness and poor roof.

Burden is one of the major influencing blast design parameters which should be optimised for the extraction of narrow vein ore bodies. Numerical simulation-based approach has been used for the optimisation of burden in this paper.
In this paper, a practical long-term plan and schedule for an underground mine located at Costerfield in Victoria is presented, discussing all main areas of concern regarding narrow vein mining. Enhanced production scheduler (EPS) software is the current tool that is used for long-term planning and production scheduling at this mine.
An idealized integrated underground mining and processing system, comprising elements of bulk mining, underground pre- concentration and backfill systems is presented. Through simulation and a systems engineering approach, the implications of enabling the utilization.
