The first Interceptor™ prototype, The Ocean Cleanup’s initial river cleanup system, was designed and built in 2017. It was deployed and tested in Zuidland, South Holland, after which adjustments were made in Capelle a/d IJssel and Batam Indonesia during the first half of 2018, before being deployed in Jakarta in 2019.
1 de jun. de 2022 · The Interceptor Trashfence borrows technology from avalanche and rockfall protection, where large steel fences are used to prevent heavy flows of material from passing through. With the Trashfence, we’ve adapted this technology to be applied to flows of trash coming down a river.
The big bags carousel was used in Prototype 1.0 and replaced by a shuttle and dumpsters in prototype 2.0 for increased effiency and autonomy. Similarly to our ocean cleanup design, we believe simplicity is key for operations and mass production.
