The Bollenhut is a ladies' hat topped with pom-poms and has been part of the traditional costume worn by women in the three neighbouring Black Forest villages of Gutach, Kirnbach (near Wolfach) and Reichenbach (near Hornberg) since around 1750.

A Bollenhut ( German: [ˈbɔlənˌhuːt], literally "ball-hat") is a formal headdress with distinctive woollen pompoms worn since c. 1750 by Protestant women as part of their folk costume or Tracht in the three adjoining Black Forest villages of Gutach, Kirnbach and Hornberg-Reichenbach.
Traditions in the Black Forest. The Black Forest is known for its cuckoo clocks, bollenhut hat, and for Black Forest cakes. The “Bollenhut” is a hat with bright red pompons and is part of the “Gutach Tracht”. This traditional dress is only worn by women in Gutach, Horberg-Reichenbach and Wolfach-Kirnbach at special occasions. More to read:
