The choir is a facilitator of worship. It seeks to show the congregation (under pastoral guidance) the way to extend beyond the temporal and reach, if only briefly, a taste of the worship of heaven. It exhibits a worship in spirit and in truth which encourages the congregation to do the same.

Choirs have taken part in church services from the earliest times, but for many centuries their role was confined to singing plainsong in unison. Such choirs varied considerably in size and style, but the choir of a well-endowed abbey or royal chapel might have 50 or 60 trained voices.
1. The church choir leads and enlivens the congregation’s song. This may come as a surprise to some readers that the first and most important function of the church choir is to lead the congregation’s song. It is important, however, that this be the top priority. Let’s not forget that without a congregation, there could not be a church choir!
A choir or choral group is a collection of people who sing together. They typically rehearse together with a leader and perform concerts or sing during religious services. Some choirs are professional (the singers are paid for their work in the choir).
