We held the third Phil Miller Guitar prize in the Eastside Jazz Club at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on Thursday the 29th of February. To start the proceedings off we were treated to the inaugural performance of the Phil Miller Legacy Band.
The Competition for the Phil Miller Guitar Prize is held annually at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and took place in the Conservatoir's Eastside Jazz Club last Thursday 16th March. This is the third annual competition commemorating the life of Phil Miller, open to students at Birmingham’s prestigious music institution, funded by generous donation from Phil Miller’s widow Herm Mew, who has also bequeathed Phil’s archive to the university.
17 de mar. de 2023 · The Phil Miller guitar prize is an annual competition at the Birmingham Conservatoire, conceived by Phil’s partner Herm alongside Conservatoire tutor (and long-time Phil collaborator) Fred Baker, with Conservatoire students competing for a £1000 prize and performing Phil’s pieces to an audience in the intimate Eastside jazz venue.
