19 de ene. de 2006 · New Horizons is a NASA mission to study the dwarf planet Pluto, its moons, and other objects in the Kuiper Belt, a region of the solar system that extends from about 30 AU, near the orbit of Neptune, to about 50 AU from the Sun.
La misión New Horizons (en español, Nuevos Horizontes) es una misión espacial no tripulada de la NASA destinada a explorar Plutón, sus satélites y asteroides del cinturón de Kuiper. La sonda se lanzó desde Cabo Cañaveral el 19 de enero de 2006.
Beginning in 2025, New Horizons will focus on specific heliophysics data, as stated by NASA in September 2023. It will remain available for a flyby of a different target until it leaves the Kuiper belt in 2028, which is when NASA expects to cease operations.
29 de sept. de 2023 · NASA has announced an updated plan to continue New Horizons’ mission of exploration of the outer solar system. Beginning in fiscal year 2025, New Horizons will focus on gathering unique heliophysics data, which can be readily obtained during an extended, low-activity mode of operations.
