Max earned his MFA in Directing from the AFI Conservatory, trained with Werner Herzog in Cuba, and is a graduate of Yale University. He recently wrapped BROTHERS, a caper starring Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Brendan Fraser, and Glenn Close for Legendary Pictures.

Barbakow studied at AFI (class of 2015) and Yale, and had a stint working with iconic German-gone-Los Angeleno director Werner Herzog.

‘They’re both the most personal things I’ve made. The first was about family, and this is a love story, so both represent where my head was at. I think the sense of humour align, and the heart align, and the complex and messy characters, too. They definitely feel like they are part of me.’
