SCRIPT BIO: This was to be the follow up to the original film Chronicle, but the studio passed on it, citing that it was too dark and off canon. If you haven't seen Chronicle, see it. It's exceptionally good.
Martyr was a planned sequel to Chronicle before the studio wanted a different direction. After the critical and box office success of Chronicle, Fox hired Max Landis to write the sequel. Once he was done, the report came out and said, "Fox is unhappy with his script."
When Matt spread the Martyr suit like Andrew and the spider, it definitely reminded of Mr. Detmer's death in the original script (something I would've loved to have seen in the finished film).
