The Lindisfarne Priory (ruin) is a Grade I listed building, List Entry Number 1042304. Other parts of the priory are a scheduled monument , List Entry Number 1011650. The latter are described as "the site of the pre-Conquest monastery of Lindisfarne and the Benedictine cell of Durham Cathedral that succeeded it in the 11th century".

Significance of Lindisfarne Priory. Lindisfarne was one of the most important places in Anglo-Saxon England. Its bishops had close links to the Northumbrian kings who ruled from nearby Bamburgh. The monks’ guardianship of the shrine of St Cuthbert brought great wealth to the monastery.

This medieval priory, whose picturesque ruins still stand today, once again made the island an important pilgrimage site as Bede and St. Cuthbert‘s associations with Lindisfarne were celebrated.
