His absence and keyboardist Keith Godchaux's penchants for bebop and modal jazz (rather than McKernan's tendencies toward the blues and rhythm and blues) contributed to the band's musical evolution. Godchaux's wife, vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux , also joined the group and appears on the album.

Their only studio album as a duo leading their own band, it was released in 1975 on the Round Records label. Produced as a vinyl LP, it has not been released on CD.
About Keith Godchaux. The Grateful Dead has always been a focus of synchronicity -- of magic "coincidences" happening at just the right time.
