Presents Author Unknown is the debut solo album by Jason Falkner, straight off of one-album stints with Jellyfish and the Grays. Author Unknown demonstrate many of Falkner’s talents, specifically as a songwriter and an instrumentalist. Falkner settles on a mid-fi production.
What he has managed in the meantime, mostly via word-of-mouth, is a loyal cult audience and copious amounts of street cred, thanks in part to his resume, but mostly for his extraordinary ability to craft unpredictable and winning pop music. “There are no lukewarm Falkner fans,” says Rapka.
23 de feb. de 1999 · Falkner’s performance is still fantastic and the album is at worst, decent. However, it shows that Falkner’s standards for songcraft have decreased and that’s a sad state of affairs. Standouts: “Author Unknown”, “My Lucky Day”, “Holiday”, “The Plan”. Excellent but a notch below his debut.
