The son of Bismark Herman Beiderbecke and Agatha Jane Hilton, Bix Beiderbecke was born on March 10, 1903, in Davenport, Iowa. There is disagreement over whether Beiderbecke was christened Leon Bix or Leon Bismark and nicknamed "Bix".
Bix Beiderbecke (born March 10, 1903, Davenport, Iowa, U.S.—died August 6, 1931, Long Island, New York) was an American jazz cornetist who was an outstanding improviser and composer of the 1920s and whose style is characterized by lyricism and purity of tone.
Leon Bix Beiderbecke was born on March 10th, 1903 to a Middle-class German family in Davenport, Iowa. Bix’s Parents were named Bismark and Agatha. Bix had two siblings as well: an older brother named Charles (nicknamed Bernie), and a sister named Louise.
