After two fairly wet monsoon seasons in 2021 and 2022, a complete reversal was observed for the 2023 Monsoon with much drier than normal conditions across a large portion of the southwestern U.S., especially across central and southern Arizona into New Mexico and west Texas (Fig. 1).
Most of AZ had well above normal rainfall. Even with abundant moisture and rainfall, temperatures were still above normal. Monsoon season runs from June 15th - September 30th. 30 – 60% of annual rainfall comes during monsoon season.
