Dorothy Parker (née Rothschild; August 22, 1893 – June 7, 1967) was an American poet and writer of fiction, plays and screenplays based in New York; she was known for her caustic wisecracks, and eye for 20th-century urban foibles.

Focusing on power dynamics, especially those involving gender, her poetry—sometimes dismissed as “light” or “flapper” verse—pulled apart the fabric of American society. During the 1920s and early 1930s, she also published several books of short stories. Parker moved to Hollywood in 1934.
