One of my favorite changes in Adywan’s Revisited version of ESB is the subtle integration of this creature into an establishing shot of the Dagobah swamp. He did such a beautiful job adding it in a way that feels natural.

The knobby white spider was a species of spider that lived and lurked on the planet Dagobah. They later grew into gnarltrees. Their name was similar to the knobby white ice spiders of the planet Maldo Kreis, a species that was in fact similar to the arachnids of Dagobah and other worlds.

6 de nov. de 2020 · Anderson would return to Dagobah and the idea of the knobby white spider in a later book, also published in 1995, called The Illustrated Star Wars universe, which included lots of unused and re-purposed Ralph McQuarrie concept art - including the spider from The Empire Strikes Back.

Ralph McQuarrie first created these spiders ahead of the release of The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. Back then, the creatures, which were dubbed “knobby white spiders,” were envisioned to face off against Luke Skywalker while training with Yoda on Degobah.
