James Maynard is a Fields Medal winner and a Professor of Number Theory at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford. He studies the distribution of prime numbers and uses analysis, combinatorics and algebra in his research.

The Fields Medal is the Nobel Prize of mathematics for those under 40 and recognises outstanding mathematical achievement and promise.
