Hannibal Hamlin (August 27, 1809 – July 4, 1891) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 15th vice president of the United States from 1861 to 1865, during President Abraham Lincoln's first term. He was the first Republican vice president.

Hannibal Hamlin is the leader of the Temple of the Union in the year 2277. An escaped slave from Paradise Falls, he dreams of creating a safe haven for runaway slaves in the Lincoln Memorial. Ever since he was 14 years old, he was a slave.
As a Jacksonian Democrat who strongly opposed slavery, he served in state government until he was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1843. In the House, he supported the Wilmot Proviso, which would have prohibited slavery from spreading into any territory acquired from Mexico. However, the bill died in the Senate.

Hamlin was the son of Cyrus Hamlin, a physician, sheriff, and farmer, and Anna Livermore. After practicing law, he entered politics as an antislavery Jacksonian.
