Lieutenant General Frank Maxwell Andrews (February 3, 1884 – May 3, 1943) was a senior officer of the United States Army and one of the founders of the United States Army Air Forces, which was later to become the United States Air Force.
One of the best informed men of military aviation, and a skilled pilot with fine flying record; General Andrews advocated a strong air force; and urged, as early as 1935, the construction of great fleets of four-motored bombers.
Before his premature death in 1943, Frank Maxwell Andrews played a major role in building the small U.S. Army Air Corps of the 1930s into the powerful U.S. Army Air Forces of World War II. Furthermore, he had become one of the key military commanders in the United States' armed forces.
