Erwin Komenda (* 6. April 1904 in Jauern am Semmering, Österreich; † 22. August 1966) war ein österreichischer Automobildesigner und von 1931 bis 1966 Leiter der Porsche-Karosseriekonstruktionsabteilung.

The VW Beetle was designed in 1937 by Erwin Komenda under Professor Ferdinand Porsche on the instructions of Adolf Hitler to produce a 'peoples' car'. It was given aerodynamic styling and a split rear windows because curved glass was inordinately expensive.

Erwin Komenda (6 avril 1904 - 22 août 1966) était un designer automobile autrichien et employé de Porsche, et l'un des principaux contributeurs à la conception des carrosseries de la VW Beetle et de diverses voitures de sport Porsche.
A new body was created, designed by Erwin Komenda, and in a similar fashion to the original bodies of the other 550's. This newly developed 550 was first shown to the public at the 1953 Hockenheim Grand Prix where it was unable to match the speeds of the 550 Coupe.
