Biography. John Winston Spencer Churchill, 7th Duke of Marlborough (1822-83), son of the 6th Duke, was a Conservative politician. As Marquess of Blandford he was M.P. for Woodstock, 1844-45 and 1847-57. Churchill was Lord Steward of the Household, 1866-67, and Lord President of the Council in Benjamin Disraeli's government, 1867-68.
John Spencer-Churchill was born on 2 June 1822, eldest son of the 6th Duke and his first wife, Jane. He was educated at Eton and Oriel College, University of Oxford and in 1843 married Lady Frances Vane, having eleven children. Duke of Marlborough ( pronounced / ˈmɔːrlbrə /) is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created by Queen Anne in 1702 for John Churchill, 1st Earl of Marlborough (1650–1722), the noted military leader. In historical texts, unqualified use of the title typically refers to the 1st Duke.
Educated at Eton (1834–9) and Oriel College, Oxford, he became conservative MP for Woodstock (1844–5, 1847–57), and succeeded to the dukedom in 1857. He was appointed privy counsellor 10 July 1866 and was lord president of the council 1867–8.
