George Cartwright (12 February 1739/40 – 19 May 1819) was an English army officer and a trader and explorer in Newfoundland and Labrador. His name is borne by Cartwright, a settlement at the entrance to Sandwich Bay .
George Cartwright (born December 10, 1950, in Midnight, Mississippi) is an American musician, best known as the founder of the band Curlew in 1979 in New York City. Besides playing soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, he has composed music for Curlew, his own solo recordings and other music ensembles such as Zeitgeist.

George Cartwright (1894-1978), soldier, was born on 9 December 1894 at South Kensington, London, son of William Edward Cartwright, coach trimmer, and his wife Elizabeth, née Stracey. Migrating alone to Australia in 1912, George took a job as a labourer on a sheep station in the Elsmore district, near Inverell, New South Wales.
