Iain Burnside is a Scottish classical pianist and accompanist, and a former presenter on BBC Radio 3. Following study at Merton College, Oxford, the Royal Academy of Music and the Chopin Academy, in Warsaw he became a freelance pianist, specialising particularly in song repertoire.
Iain Burnside is a versatile musician who performs, records and teaches a wide range of repertoire, especially English song. He also creates and directs original theatre pieces based on composers' lives and works.
Thanks to prolific careers both as pianist and award-winning broadcaster, Iain is one of the UK’s best- known musicians. Iain has worked with a huge number of international singers, notably Dame Margaret Price, Rosa Feola, Ailish Tynan, Joyce DiDonato, Laurence Brownlee, Roderick Williams, and Bryn Terfel, among many others.
Iain Burnside is a pianist who has appeared in recital with many of the world’s leading singers (“pretty much ideal” BBC Music Magazine). His recordings straddle an exuberantly eclectic repertoire from Beethoven and Schubert to the cutting edge Gramophone Award-winning NMC Songbook.
He is Artistic Director of the Ludlow English Song Weekend and Artistic Consultant to Grange Park Opera, Surrey. Future projects include Ludlow Day and the series Beyond Rachmaninov at Wigmore Hall, recitals in Zurich with Rosa Feola and Amsterdam with Roderick Williams, and concerts with Trio Balthasar in Italy and Belgium.
