Modern English are an English new wave/post-punk band formed in 1979 in Colchester, Essex, England. They are best known for their songs "I Melt with You", "Hands Across the Sea", and "Ink and Paper". The group disbanded in 1987, only to re-form two years later and then disband again in 1991.
It's a song so popular that the band was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 BMI Awards for 7 million plays on radio. Modern English is currently on tour and playing new music.
