The Yawpers are a three-piece rock and roll band from Denver, Colorado. Their name is derived from a Walt Whitman poem, entitled "Song of Myself" from Leaves of Grass: "I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world."

The Yawpers are the sheep in wolf’s clothing. Through their first three albums, the group divined a signature style—what Pitchfork described as “an expansive vision of rock ‘n’ roll, one that cherrypicks from various folk traditions: punk, rockabilly, blues, whatever they might have on hand or find in the trash.”
A rootsy three-piece whose sound puts a dark, punk-influenced undertow on acoustic blues, the Yawpers play hard-hitting songs that touch on culture and class as well as the emotional trials of ordinary lives. They released their debut single, "Savage Blue," in 2011.
