Gopalaratnam Subramaniam (born 2 June 1956), known professionally as Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter who predominantly works in Tamil cinema [citation needed] and few Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.
