Paul Graham es un ensayista, programador, e inversionista. En 1995 desarrolló junto con Robert Morris la primera aplicación basada en web, Viaweb, que fue adquirida por Yahoo en 1998. En 2002 describió un sencillo filtro estadístico de spam que inspiró una nueva generación de filtros.
