Kew Dock Yip (葉求鐸; pinyin: Yè Qiúduó; 1906–2001) was community leader in Toronto's First Chinatown, the first Canadian lawyer of Chinese descent, and played a critical role in helping repeal the Canadian Chinese Exclusion Act in 1947.
18 de oct. de 2021 · Kew Dock Yip (葉求鐸), community leader, lawyer, school trustee and film actor (born on 23 August 1906 in Vancouver, BC; died 2 July 2001 in Toronto, ON ). Yip was the first lawyer of Chinese descent in Canada. ( See Chinese Canadians .) He and fellow lawyer Irving Himel played a pivotal role in repealing the Chinese Immigration Act, 1923.

Dock Yip continued his work as an attorney for 47 years, served as a two-time trustee of the Toronto School Board, was a leader in his community, and found time to be a movie actor on the side. In 1998, Yip was awarded the Law Society Medal for outstanding service to the legal profession.
He won the Mainland Cup soccer tournament with the Chinese Students Soccer Team, and was later inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame. After studying at Columbia University, the University of Michigan for Pharmacology), and the University of British Columbia, Yip moved to Toronto in 1940.
