Geoffrey Kendal (7 September 1909 – 14 May 1998) was an English actor and theatre director who delivered Shakespeare performances throughout India in the 1940s and 1950s. Early life and family. As actor-manager of his company, Geoffrey Kendal, accompanied by Laura, toured India and the far east extensively; right upto the 1980s, performing Shakespeare, Shaw, and contemporary English theatre to Indian audiences all over the country, from palaces to schools to theatre halls.
Plot. Loosely based on the real-life actor-manager Geoffrey Kendal 's family and his travelling "Shakespeareana Company", which earned him the Indian sobriquet "Shakespearewallah", the film follows the story of nomadic British actors as they perform Shakespeare plays in towns in post-colonial India.
