Years active. 1970–present. Blair Montgomery Thornton (born July 23, 1950) is a Canadian guitarist and songwriter most widely known for his work with the rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). He also played in the band Crosstown Bus prior to joining BTO.

Despite the accolades, and the second album’s unqualified success, Randy felt it necessary to replace his brother Tim with 23-year-old Blair Thornton from Allen's Vancouver band Crosstown Bus. The addition gave BTO both a strong guitarist, and a charismatic co-frontman.

Blair Thornton is an Associate Professor of Oceanic Engineering at the University of Southampton in the UK with an adjunct position at the University of Tokyo in Japan. He holds an EPSRC Innovation Fellowship and leads the Ocean Perception Laboratory.
