Christopher Furness, 1st Baron Furness (23 April 1852 – 10 November 1912) was a British businessman and Liberal Party politician. [1] Early life. Christopher Furness, 1st Baron Furness, (grandfather) Lieutenant Christopher Furness VC (17 May 1912 – 24 May 1940) was a British Army officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

26 de feb. de 2024 · In mid-May 1940, Christopher was aged 28 years old, and a Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards when, during the Battle of France, while he was commanding a Bren Gun Carrier platoon, the following deed took place for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
It was created on 18 June 1913 for Stephen Furness. He was Chairman of Furness, Withy and Co, and also represented Hartlepool in the House of Commons as a Liberal. The third Baronet is an artist (as Robin Furness). Christopher Furness, 1st Baron Furness, was the uncle of the first Baronet.
