Kuningas lähtee Ranskaan (English: The King Goes Forth to France) is an opera in three acts by Aulis Sallinen, based on the novel of the same title by Paavo Haavikko, who also wrote the libretto. The English singing version is by Stephen Oliver.
The King Goes Forth to France (1980-83) was Sallinen's third opera and is regarded by many commentators as the composer's most problematic. On the contrary, it is the best and most profound, and its impact on Sallinen's subsequent music is incalculable.

29 de abr. de 2017 · Aulis Sallinen’s The King Goes Forth to France had its premiere in London and Savonlinna, Finland in 1984 (it was a joint commission from the Royal Opera and Savonlinna Opera Festival). It is a strange work, more ironic than outright comic.
