Watercolors is the second album by American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, recorded in February 1977 and released on ECM in June 1977. Metheny's quartet features rhythm section Lyle Mays, Eberhard Weber and Danny Gottlieb.
Lyle David Mays (November 27, 1953 – February 10, 2020) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and member of the Pat Metheny Group. Metheny and Mays composed and arranged nearly all of the group's music, for which Mays won eleven Grammy Awards.
From '77, here is Pat's follow-up to Bright Size Life. This is the first appearance of Lyle Mays and Danny Gottlieb who will become central figures in PMG. Pat continues with his moody, somber ethereal pieces, emblematic of the ECM label at this time. "Icefire", "Oasis", and "Legend of the Fountain" could easily be RalphTowner pieces.
