Recorded in the early 1920's, when Grainger was about 40 years old, the sound quality is far beyond the acoustic recording techniques of the day. His performance was captured on an Aeolian Company "DUO-ART" reproducing piano.
It's a new recording of a selection of Grainger's vintage piano rolls (ranging from 1915-1928) as played by a Steinway Duo-Art ("Vorsetzer") pianola, recorded live at ABC Studios, Sydney in May 1982.
