Midnight Cleaners is the third album by Indie pop artist The Cleaners from Venus, self-released in December 1982. The album was reissued and remastered by Captured Tracks in 2012, although the album was given a small reissue on CD-r in 2001 on JARMusic.
Martin Newell (born 4 March 1953) is an English singer–songwriter, poet, columnist and author who leads the Cleaners from Venus, a guitar pop band with jangly, upbeat arrangements. He is also regarded as a significant figure in the history of cassette culture and DIY music.
19 de abr. de 2012 · Recorded largely by Newell on his own, now using a drum machine and more synthesizers, Midnight Cleaners is a masterpiece. It opens with the gorgeous instrumental ‘This Rainy Decade’, then Martin’s love of jangly guitars shines through with ‘Time In Vain’ and ‘Only A Shadow’, the latter recently covered by MGMT .

However, it would utlimately mark the last recordings of the band's core duo -- chief songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Martin Newell and drummer and co-contributor Lol Elliot -- whose fruitful collaboration burns brightest on this shimmering and erie pop masterpiece.
