James Kenneth Galbraith (born January 29, 1952) is an American economist. He is currently a professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and at the Department of Government, University of Texas at Austin.

James K. Galbraith is a professor of government and economics at The University of Texas at Austin. He is a former adviser to the U.S. Congress and China, and a recipient of several awards and honors for his research on macroeconomics and inequality.
He is a managing editor of Structural Change and Economic Dynamics. From 1993 to 1997 Galbraith served as Chief Technical Adviser for Macroeconomic Reform to the State Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China. In 2010, he was elected to the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
