Released: 1982. Sextet is the third studio album by the English post-punk band A Certain Ratio, released in January 1982 by Factory Records. It is the first album by the band not to be produced by Martin Hannett, due to the band wishing for a new sound.

A thick soup of chopping funk spliced with a lonesome trumpet and topped with snaps, whistles and Simon Topping's evocative dour vocals. It seemed to hang in the Mancunian gloom.

With Sextet, arguably their greatest moment, they answered this question by presenting a kaleidoscope of an album full of zest and, in places – ‘Knife Slits Water’ – sheer blinding brilliance.
