Vanity 6 was an American female vocal trio that gained popularity in the early 1980s. They were protégés of musician Prince. Led by singer Vanity, they are known for their song "Nasty Girl."
Such is the album’s reputation, in fact, that it has more or less entirely overshadowed two other Prince-related projects released earlier in 1982: What Time is It?, the second album by his hard-funk spin-off project the Time; and Vanity 6, the first—and, it turned out, only—album by the eponymous girl group.
The Time toured extensively as one of two opening acts on Prince’s 1999 Tour, beginning in November 1982 (along with Vanity 6, for whom The Time played musical backing).
25 de ago. de 2017 · Introduction. 35 Years ago today the second The Time album What Time Is It? was released. Coming two weeks after the Vanity 6 album, this was the second album containing Prince material in 1982. A double-album was to follow the same year ( 1999 ).
Vanity 6’s debut, Vanity 6, came out on August 11, 1982, to be quickly followed by the Time’s What Time Is It? on August 25 and Prince’s own album, 1999, on October 27. Listening to all three together, they depict the wide range of sounds that Prince was exploring in his early career.

Vanity 6 was released on 11 August, The Time’s What Time Is It? following on the 25th, with Prince’s Prince’s breakthrough record 1999 landing that October.
