The Gulf of California (Spanish: Golfo de California), also known as the Sea of Cortés (Mar de Cortés) or Sea of Cortez, or less commonly as the Vermilion Sea (Mar Vermejo), is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean that separates the Baja California peninsula from the Mexican mainland.

The Sea of Cortez is a haven for an extraordinary array of marine mammals, and it’s one of the best places on the planet for whale watching. From December to April, visitors have the chance to witness the impressive migration of majestic humpback whales and even the rare and endangered blue whales.
We enjoyed spectacular views of the mountains and islands in the Sea of Corez and were treated to many whale sightings. The sea was calm and the colors of the sea changed often from dark blue to green and turquoise. The ship was warmly greeted in all of the ports.
Cortes Island is an island in the Discovery Islands archipelago on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The island is 25 km (16 mi) long, 13 km (8 mi) wide, and 130 km 2 (50 sq mi) in area.
