Floyd Skloot (born July 6, 1947) is an American poet, novelist, and memoirist. Some of his work concerns his experience with neurological damage caused by a virus contracted in 1988.
Poet, novelist, memoirist, and science writer Floyd Skloot was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised there and in Long Beach, New York. He earned a BA from Franklin & Marshall College and an MA from Southern Illinois University. He is the author of numerous books of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.
Floyd Skloot is the author of several poetry collections, including Approaching Winter (Louisiana State University Press, 2015); Close Reading (Eyewear Publishing, 2014); and The Snow's Music (Louisiana State Univ. Press, 2008). He lives in Portland, Oregon.

From 1972 until becoming disabled by viral-borne brain damage in 1988, Floyd worked in the field of public policy in Illinois, Washington, and Oregon. He began publishing poetry in 1970, fiction in 1975, and essays in 1990. His work has appeared in many major literary journals in the US and abroad.
