Jeff Erna is an American drummer, from Boston, Massachusetts, most notable for being the original drummer for the punk bands Dropkick Murphys and Street Dogs. [1] Career. Erna began his professional career in the Boston garage band Jared, which produced its single "Space Traveler" in 1980.
Dropkick Murphys were originally formed in 1996 in Quincy, Massachusetts, initially consisting of lead vocalist Mike McColgan, bassist/vocalist Ken Casey, guitarist Rick Barton, and drummer Jeff Erna (who would be replaced in the next year by Matt Kelly).
The Dropkick Murphys was founded in 1996 by Rick Barton, Ken Casey, Jeff Erna, and Mike McColgan. Hailing out of Quincy, Massachusetts, this four-man band would have its first replacement the next year when Matt Kelly took Erna’s place as its new drummer. The name of the band was inspired by a detox center named after Dr. John “Dropkick” Murphy.
They first recorded a seven song-demo, which feature McColgan along with his former Dropkick Murphys bandmate Jeff Erna on drums, Rob Guidotti on guitar and Bill Close on bass. They signed with CrossCheck Records in 2003, [2] with Michelle Paulhus now on bass.
