Woodrow Charles Herman (May 16, 1913 – October 29, 1987) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader. Leading groups called "The Herd", Herman came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987.

The second herd was an American jazz orchestra, founded in October 1947 and direct successor of Woody Herman & The First Herd. The last appearance of the second herd was in November 1949 due to financial reasons. In 1950, it was followed by Woody Herman And His Third Herd.
