Roy “NIP” Nichol. Drums / Vocals. Roy started playing drums when he was 15 years old playing in local bands around Cornwall, Ontario. Learning songs from his favorite Rush and Zeppelin records. Eventually learning to play guitar and sing just sort of came natural. That was 40 years ago.
Roy Ernest Nichols (October 21, 1932 – July 3, 2001) was an American country music guitarist best known as the lead guitarist for Merle Haggard's band The Strangers for more than two decades.
April Wine continued to tour across Canada annually and to play festivals in Europe and in the United States, with the group consisting of Goodwyn, Greenway, Lanthier, and drummer Roy "Nip" Nichol. They played a concert in Ottawa in September 2021.
