Victor E. Tavares. (b. May 4 th, 1945). Former Lead singer & forming member of American R&B, funk, and soul music group, Tavares. Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) is an American R&B, funk, and soul music group, composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers.
By 1973, they had changed their name to Tavares and scored their first R&B top 10 (Pop top 40) hit with "Check It Out", [4] and soon began charting regularly on the R&B and pop charts. Their first album included their brother Victor, who sang lead on "Check It Out", but dropped out of the group shortly afterward.
Victor Tavares, the brother who had left the group in 1973 after the success of “Check It Out,” briefly returned to the fold in 1981. During the down time after the group’s last Capitol release, Butch and Benjamin Wright produced an album for Victor which they placed with Polydor Records.
24 de sept. de 2021 · They are Antone Laurence “Chubby” Tavares, Perry Lee Tavares, Feliciano Vierra Tavares, Jr., and Ralph Vierra Tavares. They were all raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island. Later members were Victor Earl Tavares and Arthur Paul Tavares.

The group reached their chart peaks with 1975’s “It Only Takes a Minute,” which reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Soul Singles chart, and 1976’s “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” which got to No. 15 on the Hot 100 and No. 3 on Hot Soul Singles.
