Bernard Lee "Pretty" Purdie (born June 11, 1939) is an American drummer, and an influential R&B, soul and funk musician. He is known for his precise musical time-keeping and his signature use of triplets against a half-time backbeat: the "Purdie Shuffle." He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013.
I think we all know that Bernard Purdie is one of the legends of drumming. We know that John Bonham's drum part in Fool in the Rain is his version of a Purdie beat. What I did NOT know, was how much of John Bonham's overall feel - you know, the swing that he has in his playing (which I believed was purely Bonham's doing), came from Purdie.
