John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio is the third studio album by jazz musician John Coltrane. It was released in early 1958 through Prestige Records. The recording took place in Rudy Van Gelder's home studio on August 23, 1957. It was reissued in 1961 as Traneing In with a new catalogue number and cover design.

Garland became famous in 1955 when he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, featuring John Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones, and Paul Chambers. Davis was a fan of boxing and was impressed that Garland had boxed earlier in his life.

The trio makes an admirable group on its own (listen to the “Groovy” LP) and provides perfect support for any musician strong enough to carry a session.
