The Ballet School of The Royal Danish Ballet goes back to 1771 and is together with the School of the Paris Opera and the Ballet School in St. Petersburg among the oldest in the world. From this school a great number of famous dancers have emerged.
We offer an ambitious three-week summer intensive for young dancers in the beautiful premises of the Royal Danish Theatre. The programme is designed to help students develop the required skills to meet the technical and artistic challenges of today’s leading ballet companies.
In 1771, the first formalised ballet school at the Royal Danish Theater was founded by the French dancer and royal court dancing-master Pierre Laurent. The school was run on a rather humble scale with Laurent teaching six to eight pupils for two hours every day in the unheated vestibule of the Court Theater at Christiansborg Palace.
Within a few years of its founding, in 1771, the Royal Theater Ballet School or Royal Danish Ballet school was established to provide native dancers, of which one of the first was Anine Frølich. One of its early masters, Vincenzo Galeotti , is considered the veritable founder of the company.

Our Danish visitors have been in contact with Year 9 students as pen pals and have come here to meet their new friends and learn about how our students’ life and training compares to their own.
