From what Tomas maintained at the time, and has been consistent with what Hagström pointed out, they hired Gustaf as a sessional musician. He was there to fulfil the duties but was not allowed any input creatively speaking. As for Fredrik, he was an essential contributor to Meshuggah and likes to be in his own creative space.
